Mark has been headteacher of Fiveways School for almost 20 years. The school serves pupils with severe learning difficulties and was described by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in 2005,in 2008 and again this year.
Mark has chaired the Somerset Association of Special Headteachers twice, and has worked with local authority to prioritise the role of SEN schools and provision. Mark is an active member of the special school SSAT steering group at national level. He is also on the steering group of a local independent specialist college, and on the governor group of the South Somerset PRUs.
Mark believes in forming active and well-managed partnerships, with the emphasis on working collaboratively. He has received a wide range of SEN training, including undertaking specialist initial teacher training and a SEN masters degree. He taught in two special schools prior to his current appointment.
