Claire Dorer is the CEO of NASS – the national membership body for special schools outside local authority control. NASS provides bespoke representation, advice, support and training to member schools. Claire sits on Ofsted’s national Social Care forum and the DfE’s High Needs External Group and has worked with government on a wide range of topics including on safeguarding, progression and use of restraint. NASS conducts research on behalf of the sector on topical issues such as mental health and Social Return on Investment. Claire is passionate about partnership and NASS works with others to increase its reach and influence. NASS currently partners with Special Education Consortium, Whole School SEND, National SEND Forum, Disabled Children’s Partnership, Council for Disabled Children and Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition.
Claire has been with NASS since 2005. She is a psychologist by background but has also worked with the Department of Education on SEND policy and lectured in social work. She has publications on self-harm in children and adolescents and is also a published poet, cartoonist and music journalist.
